Underwater Cutting
Underwater cutting is a specialized technique used to cut through metal and other materials in submerged or wet environments. It's commonly employed in marine salvage operations, offshore oil and gas platform maintenance, ship repairs, and underwater construction projects.
Oxy-arc Cutting: Uses a hollow tubular electrode with oxygen flow. - Most common method for underwater work. - Effective on steel and cast iron Shielded Metal Arc Cutting: Uses standard welding electrodes. Creates an arc to melt and cut metal. Works at various depths.
Challenges: Reduced visibility. Water pressure at depth/ Cooling effects of water on the cutting process. Safety risks including electric shock and decompression issues. Requires specialized equipment designed to function in wet conditions and operators must be certified in both diving and cutting procedures.
